Destinations - Sacred Mountains

Back to All Destinations

Yading, Sichuan

Known for its three sacred mountains over 5900 meters. The highest Mt. Chenresig is "a huge white throne, such as Living Buddha use when meditation - a worthy seat for a Tibetan deity." Described by Joseph Rock. Make a wonderful trek along the trail of Tibetan pilgrims who fulfill the Kora of Chenresig.   More

Huanglong, Sichuan

The spectacular travertine, rimstone pools are unique. The forest is better protected than nearby Jiuzhaigou valley. The 5588 m snow-crowned Xuebaoding, the summit of Minshan Range, emerges at the background during fine days.  More

Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan

One of the most beautiful scenic parks in China. The amazing colors of Jiuzhaigou's lakes and pools are unique. However I would not recommend it to those backpackers who have never visited China before. Comparing with Yangshuo, Lijiang and Langmusi, Jiuzhaigou would bring you a bitter experience more often than enjoyment.  More

Siguniang, Sichuan

Four striking alpine peaks rising over 5000 meters, only 220km from Chengdu. It is a paradise for mountaineering.   More

Jiulong, Sichuan

Jiulong has some of the best alpine scenery in Sichuan or if you believe the articles of explorer Joseph Rock, “the scenery hereabouts is overwhelmingly grand."  More

Minya Konka, Sichuan

Minya Konka (or Gongga Shan ¹±¸Âɽ ) is the highest mountain in Sichuan. Situated in the Daxue Shan mountain range in the southwest of Sichuan, it is a sacred mountain to the Tibetans. There are different trekking routes around the mountain range, the most popular being a trek to the Konka Monastery (Gongga Si) ÀÏØ•¸ÂË £¨3665m£© at the foot of the glacier from the main peak (7,556m).   More

Dangling, Sichuan

Dangling, the Unveiled Secret Garden of Hengduan Mountain Range.   More

Rawu & Lhagu, Tibet

Rawok town sits on the shore of Ngan-Tso at about 3,720m. The small town of maybe 15-20 shops and hotels stretched out on both sides of the street is built beside the original Tibetan village of the same name. The lake which is 26km long and 2km wide is dramatically girded by forests and snow peaks along its shores.   More

Pai, Tibet

Pe/Pai Village is the starting point of a long trek to Metok 墨脱 (the last county in China which cannot be accessed by car.) along the primitive Yarlung Tsangpo Gorge which is claimed by Chinese scientists as the deepest gorge in the world. Due to its toughness and isolation, this trek is ranked by Chinese adventurers as China's Number One trek. Every year from June to November, hikers follow the porters who transport provisions from Pe to Metok. During the other seasons, only helicopters dispatch limited supplies to Metok.   More

Meili Snow Mountains, Yunnan

A UNESCO nature site, a wonderful place to hike and explore both nature and Tibetan culture.   More

Daju, Yunnan

Daju is best known for its magnificant views of both Yulong and Haba Snow Mountains. It is an important crossing point of Lijing's fabulous treks.
