"The Hengduan Mountains, located east of the Himalayan Range,
form a dramatic series of north-south trending valleys and ridges
extending from 1,000 to over 7,000 meters in elevation. It is one
of the world"s 25 "biodiversity hotspots" and one of only four in
the North Temperate Zone. The area is particularly rich in vascular
plants, with about 12,000 (ca. 40%) of China"s roughly 30,000 species
in the region, of those more than 3,000 are possibly endemic. "
